Skyler, I very much agree that it takes no brain to to see the faults of grade segregation, but I think it takes a disciplined brain to see the better alternatives.  Organized schooling in America, however, is eminently qualified for behavior requiring no brain. Collectivism negates the use of brains.  It is absolute laziness in the use of brains which allows the mini-darwinian cell blocks that are the grade levels in schools.  The upshot is that government-designed schooling teaches bullying and submission, in effect authoritarianism, to the near exclusion of all else.  I paraphrase Don Adams’ advice to the students at umpire school, “Those of you who make it on your own will go on to bigger and better things; those who don’t will become good citizens.”
