Tacit Acceptance of Tyranny

Hard work being effective is a sign of a middle class and a capitalist society. Hard work isn’t the currency of the elite or privileged, it is the currency of the poor and underprivileged. Elites have no need to work hard, their currency is status, favoritism, and government. Hard work being effective is the sign of people being relatively free.

Today, there aren’t large groups of people who don’t have this freedom. Government has dimmed this freedom for everyone, but everyone is still relatively free to engage in commerce and trade their labor for resources.

Sadly, we have political actors telling people they can’t make it. The deck is stacked against them and no matter what they do, they will lose. These people will resent everyone else who is free without realizing that the main thing limiting their freedom has been the narratives implanted in their own minds.

Freedom is wonderful. However, we should never view it as privilege. Freedom should be regarded as the standard of judgement, it should be expected and neutral. Otherwise, we are creating a cultural of tacit acceptance of tyranny.
