Without regard to intentions, what one is seeking when he is seeking political office is power. Whether it’s for dismantling the state or expanding it, power is seen by the office-seeker as necessary to obtain. They want something done that they are currently powerless to do. They believe that with enough power, they can finally move society in the direction they want. But power easily corrupts even the most righteous of wielders. The easier it becomes to get what they want, the greater their list of wants becomes. Sooner or later, those wants will be less about what they believe (right or wrong) is best for everyone, and more about what’s best for themselves. And that’s today’s two cents.
