The Journey of Survival and The Risk of Failure

Many, probably most, people believe animals are probably better off in the wild rather than the zoo. This is true despite the fact that zoos offer the resources that animals spend most of their existence trying to acquire in abundance and at no risk. We reasonably understand that their evolutionary drive provides them with purpose and that merely giving them the ends of so many of their goals make them weak and depressed.

The Problematic Foundation of “Privilege”

The main problem with the concept of privilege is that it ignores how people generally acquire resources. We all acquire resources by trading with others. People are able to demand more resources when they have qualities that are highly valuable to other people. When we see people who are disadvantaged, we need to ask: How can we help make these people more valuable to others?

The Goal of Protests

I want to live in a world of confident individual human beings who use reason and are convinced by thoughtful discussion and deliberation. I don’t want to live in a world where rank intimidation and fear guide people. Maybe I am a bit Utopian in this regard. However, as long as that is the culture I wish to foster, I will always despise protests.

Uber and Parenting

Sometimes Cambria gets very adamant about not leaving somewhere or not getting in her car seat. This can be a bit of a challenge. We used to just wait her out (10-30 minutes), since there wasn’t many other cards to play in this scenario. However, a couple of months ago we tried a different strategy that has worked great.
