By modern definitions, I have been sexually assaulted. I have been grabbed, and groped in uncomfortable ways that were highly unwelcome. People have tried to kiss me that were unwelcome. Let me talk about some of the instances.

On Gun Policy II
Alright, I’m calling it: homicides, suicides, and other such negative acts where a gun is used is not a “cost” of liberal gun policy. Are you familiar with the logical fallacy known as a non sequitur?
American Exceptionalism
When others do it, it’s terrorism; when Americans do it, it’s national defense. When others do it, it’s a war crime; when Americans do it, it’s collateral damage.
The Sidebar Fallacy
I heard on the radio this morning what I will call the Sidebar Fallacy. It is a specialized form of a hybrid between the straw man and the red herring. It is essentially an accidental getting off topic and pretending that the new topic is germane.
The Little Handbook for Getting Stuff Done

Don’t Be Passive Aggressive
I had a recent experience that’s pretty common. Someone asked for something, I told them the conditions under which it could be delivered (which were, as most conditions, just my made-up best guesstimate of what made sense). They replied, “Oh, that’s disappointing. I thought it would be different.”

When Fear is Stopping You From Pursuing Meaningful Work
I was having a discussion with a friend recently who is holding himself back from doing the purposeful work he thinks he wants to pursue. What’s holding him back? Fear of putting himself out there in public. Fear of failure. Fear of being judged. Fear of choosing the wrong path. Fear of not being good enough.
“Let Me See Your ID First.”
One thought that keeps running through my mind is that believers in the State must expect everyone to swap “government-issued ID” when they meet (and be able to tell if it is “real”), just in case anything happens later on. Maybe they believe the State should issue “Approved for Sex” cards, with age restrictions on which partners you’re allowed, of course.
