In short, our anxiety is caused by uncertainty. It’s a feeling of alarm, of stress, of fear or even slight panic, when things feel unsettled, constantly shifting, out of control.

The History of Private Schools: How American Education Became a Political Battleground
Public schools being an arm of the state are indoctrination centers. This becomes increasingly true as basic skills such as the old “three Rs” of “reading, writing and ‘rithmatic” are jettisoned in favor of climate change, critical race theory and gender ideology – all of which are now part and parcel of a public education in the United States.
Don’t Let Mass Shooters and the New York Times Destroy Freedom of Speech
As a practical matter, “extremists,” like everyone else, will choose to state, promote, and argue for their beliefs. If they can do so in public, those beliefs can be engaged and argued against. If they can’t do so in public, they’ll do so in private, without anyone to convince them (and those they quietly bring into their circles over time) of the error of their ways. The rest of us won’t have a clue what might be in the offing — until the guns come out, that is.
Enough Enabling, Already!
The local mall lost some of their “No Guns” signs over the past few years. You can actually walk in some entrances which don’t have the insults posted by them. But one entrance that I know of still has one by it. I don’t go there enough to have noticed whether people ignore that sign– but you know they do.
A Reminder
The picture below shows an animated electric sign located in, I believe, New York City. It is a readout of The National Debt Clock. I don’t know how long ago it was photographed, but a check today says that the big number is now over $22.5 trillion.
The Only Thing Stupider Than Your Policy Ideas is Trying to Enact Them
It’s one thing to make an argument that more individuals would get greater returns doing X than Y, or that common ideas about economic or cultural value are off base. These are great discussions. But when they move from individuals to aggregates, and especially when they move from exploration or persuasion to policy, they descend into stupidity. Or more precisely, what Hayek called the Fatal Conceit.
Government is Antisocial and is Killing America
Ammo.com recently posted an article about how Washington DC has destroyed social life in America. They make a good point, and it’s really sad, but the goons from the District of Criminals aren’t the only governmental culprits. Many of you know how much I enjoyed karaoke during my brief time in Pennsylvania. I was in an unfamiliar […]
Reflections from Spain
I just got back from a five-week visit to Spain. The first four weeks, I was teaching labor economics at Universidad Francisco Marroquín while my sons took Spanish-language classes on Islamism, Self-Government, and the Philosophy of Hayek. Then we rented a van and saw Cordoba, Seville, Gibraltar, Fuengirola, Granada, and Cuenca.
Limiting Liberty Never Good For People
If I didn’t like people much, I would convince them their rights come from government and can be limited or lost.
The Fallacy Fallacy Redux
Just because someone argues about a thing by using a logic fallacy does not make the thing itself untrue. In fact, citing your antagonist’s logic slip, then claiming victory thereby is just another instance of the appeal to authority. The authority in this case are the tandem of your fallacy guru and your argumentation guru.
