In Praise of Illegal Immigrants
Most conservatives and many “libertarians” decry the presence of illegal immigrants in the United States and elsewhere. They seemingly consider them to be less than human, calling them “illegals” with an air of contempt. It also seems that, to them, one of the worst crimes one could commit is the act of immigrating, that is “moving,” without permission from the state. Are “illegals” less than human? Is their crime among the worst that can be committed? I give a resounding “NO!” in answer to both questions. In fact, I consider “illegals” to be the best residents a country can have. Here’s why.

Animals and the NAP
The Facebook page “V is for Voluntary” asked the question, “Do you extend the NAP to animals? Why or why not?” And I responded, Personally, in a way, yes. I don’t think we should go around half-killing animals and then letting them suffer toward either health or death. If there’s a more humane way to…
Damaging Government Property?
Ben Stone of the Bad Quaker podcast, who I’ve recently begun listening to (but too early to recommend), wrote an essay on civil disobedience for DailyAnarchist.com. It’s very good, but I took issue with a piece of his setup. This: It’s impossible for government to legitimately own anything. Everything that is commonly considered “government property”…

Homeschooling vs. Unschooling
Libertarians are quick to defend the “rights” of homeschooling parents against violations by the state. I can only half-heartedly get behind such a cause. Yes, the state should get out of the way of parents, but just as important, maybe even more important, is that parents should get out of the way of their children.…
