Giving your car keys to a car-jacker in order to avoid getting a bullet through your brain does not equate to condoning and approving of car-jacking. Likewise, going along with various commands and/or demands of a heavily armed ruling class out of self-preservation does not equate to approving of or advocating such state aggression.

Our Paranoid Society is Too Hard on Kids—and on Parents
Most of us who are, say, 50 or older, remember childhoods in which we were substantially free to wander within a reasonable distance of home. Our parents gave us rules, of course, but it was understood that roaming one’s community was part of the process of growing up. They didn’t worry about us unless we were late for dinner.
“Food Insecurity” and Who’s to Blame
Individual action, motivated by self-interest, would solve the problem. Only when the Grand Designs of Central Planners get in the way, with their “laws” and other one-size-fits-all nonsense, does individual action run into roadblocks.
Greg Ives: Dishonest New Hampshire Hearing Officer
Despite NHES general counsel Maria Deltario, and the main witness, Chris Leones, admitting there was no evidence against their target, they allowed the matter to escalate and we requested a hearing, Greg Ives was the hearing officer. His dishonesty is easy to present, it consists primarily of a contradiction, a contradiction that set the stage for the destruction of a peaceful business.
The American Way of War
Contrary to popular misconception, the war state did not begin in 1945. From the start, war was an acceptable means to national policy ends, whether to open markets or to install friendly regimes. It’s a gross understatement to call this record shameful.

But the thinkers shown in today’s effort are those with the names that I carry around in my head — writing them down as a reminder is not needed. Today, I will write about Dr. Robert Higgs, Henry Louis Mencken, and Mark Twain, whom I have mentioned, probably, in reverse order of each’s world renown.
Most Concerns with Safety are Bullshit
Sure, wear a seat belt on a two hour drive. Don’t wash your fruit before eating it. Let your kids go outside and talk to strangers.
Talk to, Don’t Provoke, North Korea
There’s little more we can do than hope that some cool heads around Donald Trump are telling him he’d be nuts to attack North Korea. I don’t know who they might be. Still, we must hope.
Marine Le Pen and the Growing Scourge of Nationalism
While I certainly do not expect to see Marine Le Pen secure a victory in the upcoming French Presidential runoff election, even her ascendency to such a race represents yet another (once) surprising victory for the strain of nationalistic populism which has been sweeping the globe in recent years. From the Philippines to Great Britain to the United States to Turkey to France (and many other similar examples as well), we are witnessing the reversal of a trend at least 70 years in the making.
Deny Bakery Service? Go to Jail. Deny Airline Service? The Law Will Help You!
In America, if you are a small bakery and you decline to do business with someone—with no contracts broken and no money paid—you can be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars and lose your business.
