How to Disappoint Me

August 1, 2017August 1, 2017 Kent McManigal

The fastest way for me to become disappointed in someone I care about is for them to take a government “job”. That’ll do it every time.

But This Time It’ll Be Done Right!

July 31, 2017 Perry E.

It should never be a surprise that government will do a poor, even nightmarish job when it declares itself the only entity that can oversee what it forces people into participating in.

Words Poorly Used #96 — Victims

July 30, 2017July 30, 2017 Kilgore Forelle

POTUS, this one and each of the foregoing 44, loves to trot out victims.  But, it’s not difficult to find people screwed by government programs.  It’s a feature, not a bug.

Privacy: J. Edgar’s Not The Hoover You Need to Worry About Anymore

July 30, 2017July 30, 2017 Thomas L. Knapp

In the latest phase of our frenzied technological advancement, it’s clear that yes, our gadgets do collect and use more and more information about us, and that that information progressively ramifies across more, bigger, and more integrated networks. The bigger question: Is it worth it? The answer: It depends.

Statist Projection

July 30, 2017July 30, 2017 Kent McManigal

Anarchy doesn’t preclude working with others; only ruling others or letting them rule you. Yet, I can’t begin to count the number of times a statist has said something to the effect of “anarchy is anti-social” or “anarchists can’t get along with others.”

There Can Be No Exceptions

July 28, 2017 Perry E.

As an anarchist, I ask: how can a government be established without depriving a peaceful person of property (taxes), then liberty and life if the person won’t go along with the plan?

What the Left Should Like about Public Choice

July 28, 2017July 28, 2017 Sheldon Richman

Although the public choice school of political economy has been demonized in a new work of putatively progressive fiction masquerading as intellectual history, good-faith leftists (if they don’t already regard themselves as libertarians) may be surprised by how their cause could benefit from the insights of James Buchanan, et al.

The State is at War — with the Future

July 28, 2017July 28, 2017 Thomas L. Knapp

What we’re seeing is the latest bit of backlash from a  political establishment scared witless by technologies which threaten to make it superfluous.

Did Free Markets Create Government?

July 27, 2017 Skyler J. Collins (Editor)

At first thought this claim might seem true: Governments were created by the free market. I mean, if governments exist, and they didn’t before, then the free market must have created them, right?

You’ve Got to Work For It

July 27, 2017July 27, 2017 Kent McManigal

If you are willing to work to maintain a State, but not willing to put effort into maintaining liberty, you don’t want liberty very much. I do. I’m willing to work for it. I’m willing to change the oil, rotate the tires, wash it off when it gets dirty, and fix any troubles that crop up. Because I LOVE liberty.
