On Institutional Association

The UK tossed a case brought by Tom Phillips against Mormon president Thomas Monson for fraud. The accusation is that the Mormon church makes claims that are factually false and promises that are left objectively unfulfilled, and in return received monetary compensation, thus fraud. I don’t know if the Mormon church’s claims are false or not, or whether it’s promises can be objectively measured, but I do know that Tom Phillips, and everyone else, has the right to disassociate with the Mormon church. Further, they have the right to shine a light on what they consider a fraudulent practice. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for the states we each live under. Our association with them is not voluntary, thereby making effective disassociation virtually impossible. Would it be that we could secede from the state as we can secede from the church! Only then would we have real liberty. And that’s today’s two cents.

Skyler.
