News? Not!

Nobody asked but …

I gave up watching cable news long ago — I believe it was during the first Bush Jr administration, just after the beginning of the failing War on Terror.  The lack of information due to overemployment in the media sector and the resultant rise in partisanship rendered the “news” useless.

Is Internet-based journalism better?  No, hell no!  Here are some examples of recent news feeds:

  1. Emotional Duke fans take in Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium — not news, K’s retirement is old information.
  2. Putin calls sanctions a declaration of war as Zelenskyy pleads for more aid — not news, predictable.
  3. For The First Time, There Has Been an Unplanned Spacecraft Crash With The Moon — not news, has been thoroughly reported for many weeks.
  4. Bless ‘Better Things,’ the TV Show That Actually Makes You Feel Good About Life Right Now — not news, it’s fiction about fiction!
  5. Convoy picks up cars and anti-Ukraine talking points ahead of Washington arrival — not news, speculation.
  6. A drink a day could be associated with brain changes, study finds — not news, it’s a study, at least secondhand!
  7. Suddenly the US and Germany have a chance to be effective partners, not news, opinion.
  8. Barack Obama Roasted Stephen Curry and the Warriors With a Reference to Michael Jordan’s Bulls — not news, history, at least secondhand.
  9. The False Promise of Plastic Recycling — not news, speculation.
  10. Gonzaga, Auburn place two each on final men’s Wooden Award ballot; Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe considered front-runner — not news, speculation on speculation.

There you have it, a typical selection of “news.”  Stale, time-worn, same-oh same-oh.  Not a scoop in the lot.
