Never Call the Cops!

A rebellious teenager has a fight with his father and takes his pickup truck for a drive without permission. The father calls the cops. The cops hunt down the son and shot him dead.

Unfortunately, this is not a plot outline for a TV movie, but an actual situation that occurred this week in Iowa. What lessons can we learn from this tragedy? I see several. First, calling the cops is tantamount to hiring a hitman and will quite possibly make you an accessory to murder — at least in ethical terms. Second, parenting should never be about bringing force down on the head of your child in order to punish him for what you perceive as misbehavior. Third, until we start holding them accountable and bringing them to justice, Leviathan’s enforcers will continue to murder innocent people with impunity in the name of so-called “officer safety.”

If we ever hope to have a free and peaceful society, we need to learn these lessons and adjust our behavior accordingly. If insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results,” I think it’s blatantly obvious that our society is stark raving mad.
