Nagasaki as a Fact of Life Casualty
Nobody asked but …
It’s an unfortunate fact of life that “evil” ideologies can’t just be beaten back, they have to be stamped out.
So wrote a respondent to Robert Higgs’ retrospective on the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki, written six years ago. How many cognitive dissonances can you find in that quote? Checking the premise, this is not a fact — of life or any other vessel of facts, whether unfortunately or not. There is no possibility of known evidence existing to support such a proposition. There has never been a time or place in which evil has been stamped out — check me on this, please. There will furthermore never be a place and time where there may be an absolute extinction of evil. These are the immutable physics of the matter, if not the facts of life.
