Mark Twain’s Thought

Nobody asked but …

A few pieces ago, when I listed favorite quotes from American writers, I included this one from Mark Twain —

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

If you don’t ascribe to this, do the math.  You are swimming upstream.

Each morning when you awake there is an infinity that is available.  Most of us eliminate the multitudes with expectations, traditions, schedules, lists, obligations, structure, affiliations, volunteering, and so forth.  These obliterate all but a scintilla of accident.

But even if the margin that remains is microscopic, it still is unlimited.

Stay pat, waiting for disease or time to overtake you.  Or begin to plan your trip to Tierra del Fuego.
