Implosion

Nobody asked but …

Yesterday, I was an eyewitness, along with tens of thousands others, to the controlled implosion of the 48 year old Capital Plaza Tower, in Frankfort KY, a 24-story state office building, the former home of many government agencies, including the Department of Education.

The poorly built boondoggle was a leftover of LBJ’s urban renewal program — the tragic idea that you could give minorities equality by destroying their homes and neighborhoods, turning useful cityscapes into frosty architectural renderings.

It’s too bad the agencies themselves escaped the demolisher’s plunger.  But we can dream, can’t we?

The pile of rubble was at least 5 stories in height.  It was nothing compared to the size of the recollections of malfeasance committed at that spot.

When the dust settled, I yelled, “Next!”
