War on Poverty

Nobody asked but …

The federal government first got into a mainstream “war on poverty” in 1933, the first year of the FDR administration. To my knowledge, there has been no serious abatement in the size or cost of this type of program in the intervening time — 81 years. We must conclude at this point that government has failed to vanquish poverty. We also must conclude that human kindness has failed as well. But we don’t know if this second failure has been because of the false political solution or in addition to it.
