The Torture Report

Nobody asked but …

We’ve been lied to!!!!  Now the executive branch and all of the pols in the congress can breathe a sigh of relief.  The people of America can breathe a sigh of relief.  After an orgy of cable news speculation and I-told-you-so’s, we can all quietly go back to the quotidian acceptance of that which we are told to believe.  But I will make a confession to you, I am not at all happy to learn that which I already knew in my heart.  Government’s entire purpose is to lie to us, and create as many fictions as it takes to sustain all of the lies.  Have you heard that torture is a very ineffective way to get facts?  It’s true.  But it is a monstrously effective way to fill in holes in a narrative.  Hey, Oligarchy, where do you feel that the mythology may be somewhat threadbare?  NP, we’ll just fabricate a confession that covers that, then we’ll torture somebody who made the mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time — hell, maybe we’ll torture two.  And we’ll do it as many times as necessary.  And we’ll make sure that it just dribbles out over a decade, and you will be exonerated 100%.  What could go wrong?
