I was inspired to create this blog post following a conversation with some of my lovely, intelligent, compassionate girlfriends the other day, wherein I was surprised that they all seemed to truly believe that physical punishment (spanking) is a necessary part of parenting. Because each child is different, sometimes they won’t respond to anything else. There really is no “best” way, they vacillated. Unfortunately, this clinging to justifications for spanking is done by the majority though it is not based in logic or empirical evidence. (As in the common, “I was spanked and turned out just fine.” Is that because of or in spite of being spanked?)
