Statists don’t bother me, they can even be my ally. What bothers me are imperialists.
There are people of various types who can not tolerate other people living by values that don’t prescribe. You see it often with Mormons and other religious people, for example. There are some who don’t care that other people have gay sex, do drugs, and live by their non-religious values … and there are ones who wish to legislate and enforce their morality by whatever means necessary.
Statists often just want to live in a society that has certain values. They can often be fine with people living by other values. Imperialists are the ones who won’t and can’t tolerate your way of life.
It is this view that makes me much more anti-left than anti-right. Conservatives in Missouri largely don’t give a shit about gay people fucking each other in New York … but lefties in New York care a great deal about people who are “homophobic” in Missouri.
