On Sacrifice for Others

Our lives are our own. To say that we should sacrifice a part of our lives for the good of others is to reduce us to slavery. I would not want anyone to be reduced to slavery in order to save my life, and have no respect for or interest in saving anyone who wants to enslave me for their own benefit. I have great sympathy toward those suffering around the world, and have given to them charitably. But to demand my life or the fruits of my labor to end their suffering is to treat me as cattle, making you a predator who should be put down as the threat to my life that you are. And that’s today’s two cents.

Skyler.
