On Government Transparency

A headline at InformationWeek reads, “Google Says Governments Fight Transparency.” Of course they do. Don’t all criminal organization try to hide their scheming from the rest of society? I would if I were a criminal. As I wrote in “Conspiracy Theorem,” the state “actively and purposefully keeps most of society in the dark on some of the most important questions regarding its actions. Were the state to be truly transparent, it would greatly risk losing the perception of legitimacy that it requires for its survival.” Force alone cannot maintain a state. Favorable public opinion must be formed through half-truths and propaganda generated by the state. If monopoly government were truly transparent, society would see it for the criminal organization that it is. And that’s today’s two cents.

Skyler.
