Hibernians

Nobody asked but …

My friend and fellow blogger here at EVC, Papa Libertarian, shared an interesting article on Facebook from History.com.

The article recounted aspects of the rejection of Irish Potato Famine refugees by mainstream America in the 19th century.  But the assimilation of the Irish was hastened by their conscription in the USA’s Civil War.

There is much that is being repeated today in America’s raging debate on immigration.  The scapegoats this time are, however, ethnicities, religions, and atheisms from Central America to Africa and Palestine to North Korea.
