Equality of Opportunity?

Many conservatives and capitalists are fond of saying they don’t believe in equality of results but rather equality of opportunity. I believe this is a horrible strategy, and I believe it is bad philosophy; both politically and personally. I’ll use an analogy where I have some skin in the game to demonstrate this a little.

I have two daughters, currently. They are different people. The fact that they are different people will mean they will have different opportunities and different results in life. In no way do I desire to equalize results or opportunities for them.

I believe, as a father, I have three main jobs in this realm. 1. Help them know themselves and understand the opportunities that might exist for them. 2. Create a familial culture of respect and individual responsibility. And 3. Stay out of their way.

My children’s results and opportunities in life are up to them to negotiate with other people, and reality. Their opportunities and results are not for me to create or regulate.

Equality is delusional concept. Don’t try to make this concept fit a clear understanding of reality. The world is wonderful, living is great and reality is forgiving and swell … however, in no way is it equal, and in no way should we want it to be. We are different and our experience of the world will be different … don’t ruin it with your equality bullshit. Advocate liberty and individualism, get out of the way of people, and stop pandering to the left.
